What the longevity-blossom motif means

The longevity blossom opens in concentric rings that never close, a woven way of saying may this continue. It is the motif Zhuang families choose for elders and for anniversaries.

How it is made

The brocade is stretched over a clasp frame and finished around a turned handle, a construction that takes longer than a sewn opening but keeps the mouth of the bag square.

Warm, ceremonial colourways suit it best; it was never meant to be subtle.
